Why this team is cool: The Saratoga-Wilton Youth Soccer Club Saratoga Sol ‘98 U10 Boys is starting a winning tradition this year. Since this team was formed in the summer of 2007, the team has a record of 18-3-1. The wins have come against teams at the Guilderland United Halloween Tournament, the Sportsplex of Halfmoon indoor league, the Quickstrike FC Indoor Tournament in Newburgh and the CDPHP New Year’s Cup at the Sportsplex of Halfmoon. The losses have been great learning experiences against larger, premier teams that pull players from multiple cities and schools.

Coach's Quote: "I love soccer. I love working with kids. I love teaching youth players the game of soccer and instilling in them the love for this beautiful game. The youth players never cease to amaze me with how much information they can soak in and to see results on the pitch is exciting."

Last tournament: At the CDPHP New Year’s Cup at Sportsplex of Halfmoon, the Saratoga Sol ‘98 started off the day defeating Ballston Spa 4-2. Goals were scored by Stephen Klimek, Tyler Klingenberg, Dean Hereijgers and Connor Fenoff. Their next match against Black Watch Premier was a nail-biter. The game was 1-1 for most of the match. Black Watch Premier would get a goal to go up 2-1. With a minute left, Saratoga pushed up field to get an equalizer, but it wasn’t to be. Klimek scored the lone goal for Saratoga. Saratoga would win a tough third match against Albany Alleycats Premier 2-1. Goal scorers were Chris R. and Klimek. Saratoga earned second place with a 1-0 win over Niskayuna. Klimek scored the winning goal. Ian Starnes anchored the defense and Christian Lewis was terrific in goal.

Notable: Geller, a former player at Siena College, also has help training the boys from Saratoga varsity soccer players. This gives the younger players role models to look up to and players to try to imitate. Last year, the team was assisted by Division I players Adam Costello (Colgate), Warren Gross (Penn State) and Jake Ostrov (Manhattan). This year, David MacVane Jr. (a high school all-American attending South Carolina) and Travis Kraus (planning to attend HVCC) are planning on assisting with the team. Saratoga HS sophomores Noah Cadet, Caz Rafalik, and Pete Walsh also assist in training.
