Saratoga Sol '98 Win U11 Division of Wappinger United Indoor Soccer Tournament held at Vassar College

The Saratoga Sol '98 returned home this weekend with a Championship trophy from the Wappinger United Indoor Soccer Tournament that was held at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. The tournament was a 6v6 format with each team playing seven 13-minute games.

The team got off to a great start defeating Middlepath FC, a premier club out of Dutchess County, 1-0. The squad then went on to defeat the Washingtonville Blue Dragons (2-0), Minisink Green Bulls (1-0), Wappingers United Blackfeet (2-0), Wappingers United Red Dogs (3-1), and the Cornwall Rangers (2-0).

The tournament would come down to the final match against the Carmel Raptors. The Raptors had earlier escaped a tie with Middlepath FC with a last-second wonder goal that would have solidified 1st place for the Sol. The Raptors now were 5-0-1 and a win for them over Saratoga would mean 2nd place for the Sol.

The team pulled together and after a back and forth match the game ended 0-0. The Sol had won the BU11 Division with a 6-0-1 record.

Team Members were Connor Fenoff, Tyler Klingenberg, Jake Milstein, Stephen Klimek, Christian Lewis, Will Turner, & Mike Burkett. Chris Jupin and Brandon Dice from Clifton Park helped the team win the Championship.

Scorers on the day were: Stephen Klimek (5), Mike Burkett (2), Chris Jupin (2), Connor Fenoff (1), and Brandon Dice (1).

Assists were dished out by: Jake Milstein (2), Tyler Klingenberg (2), Klimek (1), and Jupin (1).

Christian Lewis was stellar in goal earning clean sheets in 6 out of 7 games.

In addition to winning the tournament on the pitch, the team also won the Tournament Shootout. After each game, the teams would go to a smaller goal and 3 shooters from each team would step up to take a penalty kick. The team who scored the best out of 3 would earn 3 points, a tie would earn 1 point, and a loss = 0. The boys rotated shooters and goalkeepers, and in the end, won the Tournament Shootout Competition as well.

Keep up the great work.
